INTRODUCTION
The increasing level
of global warming on earth makes various groups throughout the country vie to
find the best solution to save this beloved earth that is getting old and
frail. Not a few organizations are moving to participate and help the governments
of their respective countries campaign for the importance of saving the earth
from the threat of global warming. One solution that is very aggressively
proclaimed is the green education program. Of course, there are many parties,
both individuals and groups of people who have a high passion for saving this
earth. One of them is waste management, which is increasing in number every
day. We may be helped to some extent by the presence of garbage scavengers who
want to be involved in the world of waste and recycling waste so that it can be
worth a rupiah. Unfortunately, not many people are willing to become
scavengers. For any reason! To address this, of course, we as part of the
earth's society must be able to recycle our household waste. To avoid piles of
garbage that cause an unpleasant odor and a lot of non-biodegradable waste, we
must be able to process it properly. Burning trash is not a recommended action
to take. The best way is by recycling or known as recycling.
Excessive and
irresponsible consumer consumption over the last few decades can be considered
one of the main drivers of global warming. The unethical and unsustainable
practices of overconsumption have led to environmental pollution and the
destruction of natural resources. The fashion industry has been criticized for
promoting fast consumption of clothing and accessories to further their
interests. The resources needed to produce one kilogram of cotton include 7000
to 29,000 liters of water and about 1 kilogram of oil. Still, the average
consumer is generally oblivious to these figures when discarding a garment made
with cotton just because the style has become outdated.
Some of the oversized clothing MNCs produce more than
half a billion garments per year and about 14.3 million tons of
textile/garments were sent to landfills in one year in the US alone. Many
garments that do not sell at retail stores are sent to secondhand shops, where
only 20 to 30 percent of the clothing is resold. The US EPA estimates that an
average person throws away 70lb of clothing every year and the incineration of
synthetic textile fibers led to 1.1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide
equivalent emission.

BACKGROUND
1.
What were taken in the case?
2.
Were these actions the most appropriate and why?
3.
Were there any consequences of the action?
4.
Was anything omitted or not considered?
5.
What do fashion designers think about trashion?
6.
What is the goal of trashion?
1.
In this study, we take trashion as an example of a case that we will discuss.
Trashion is an abbreviation of trash and fashion which means changing fashion
waste into new fashion. They utilize fashion waste as the main raw material and
eliminate or reduce fashion waste that accumulates every day. This waste will
be used as a new fashion by designers who are focused on fashion waste
management.
From the several articles we read, there were articles
that focused on the fashion waste management program. The program focuses on
waste management which engages students and artists to become knowledgeable
about issues related to landfills through fashion and artistic design. The
program described by the originator is interdisciplinary in nature, where
participating designers attend a series of programs and workshops.
2.
This action is considered appropriate, this case uses the 5S method (reduce,
reuse, recycle, replace and replant). By implementing the 5R method, it is expected
that fashion waste that has accumulated can be handled properly. It is hoped
that this trend of trashion will reduce global warming over time.
3.
Even though things are running smoothly, there are some people who are
reluctant to use "trash", because they are considered dirty goods.
They don't want to take the risk of using someone else's used goods. In
addition to the hygiene factor, trashion makes local clothing industries that
release new clothes compete because trashion users prefer to use old fashion
which usually has well-known brands.
4.
In this case there are many considerations that must be considered. Cleanliness
of trashion waste is the main thing before processing it back into fashion.
Organizing a program with the theme "trashion" must also be in line
with the target market, the originator is expected to be able to explain in
detail and in detail the purpose of trashion and how it is processed. So they
can be interested in the program.
5.
Some designers argue that trashion is a way to reduce fashion waste. As Sheryl
Tng commented “trashion has an environmental and innovation scope that
encourages people to be bold with their choices. A trend that lists 'garbage'
as a cultural directive that will remain in social consciousness for some time
to come. Trashion always has a place in our lives both now and in the long
term. All it takes is a little conscious effort and creativity to make it
happen.”
6.
The purpose of the "trashion" trend is to reduce fashion waste and to
attract the interest of the younger generation to be as creative as possible
through art. Trashion also has the goal of making useless things useful and
increasing the selling price of the trash.
Trashion is something that can be done by all ages. It is expected that the
originators of the idea of “trashion” have knowledge about waste piles and can
express it through fashion and design. Trashion is also expected to encourage
people to start minimizing fashion waste.

Global
Warming is happening, and a lot of is caused by one of them being garbage from
used clothes to causing mountains of fashion waste so global warming is
happening now. From the fashion waste itself, some people started to come up
with selling ideas in the form of used clothes that were rewashed and resold.
Trashion itself has received support from people who understand global warming.
Fashion has a bad impact on the global warming process. The waste generated
during fashion production is discharged into rivers or seas and causes
pollution that is dangerous for the survival of the creatures that live in it.
Fashion products that are no longer used/interested in will also be thrown away
and become very difficult to recycle waste.
Trashion has
a good impact, meaning that we implement the 3R principle (reduce, reuse,
recycle) by reusing clothes that are still in good condition. Also, the price
is cheaper and the quality of the clothes is relatively good. And tend to be
more durable because it has survived one life cycle from the previous owner.
Allowing buyers to express themselves with fashion creatively and by their
tastes. Because it is very possible that the clothes being sold are not the
type of clothing that is currently popular at a certain time. However, this is
a challenge for buyers to mix and match the fashion they find.
IV.
CONCLUSION
Trashion or thrifting is a way that
people nowadays do to prevent or reduce the effect of global warming. It reduce
the ‘trash’ or the residual from fashion industry. The biggest reason why
thrifting popular is because there are people that is not able to buy new
clothes so they have to buy used clothes that is cheaper or more affordable for
them. Its also an alternative way to resell the used high-end or branded
product or you want to look fashionable but also helping the environment.
This action has been done for years
and but became more popular for the last few decade. It gave a good impact for
the environment because it means that people are more open and realize how much
the global warming worsen each year. In Indonesia, you can see that its so
popular among the youth. You will see numerous thrift shop on the side of the
road. The government even put some event for thriftier to gather and shop in
one place. It shows that Indonesia accepted the idea of thrift or trashion.
Unknowingly, thrifting has become an unwritten culture among the Indonesian.
